Cascading allows up to twenty four appliances to be connected in parallel. One of the appliances will serve as the controlling Primary appliance and will attempt to meet the hot water demand. If the hot water demand is beyond the capacity of the Primary appliance (80 percent power), a signal is sent to one or more of the Secondary appliances to ignite. A cascading kit must be installed for each Secondary appliance included in the installation and then a cable will need to be run from the last unit back to the main Primary appliance The maximum distance for cascading links between appliances is 36".

The cascading between each unit would then have a cascading cable at the end that would plug back into the master heater to form a "ring".  Units can be cascaded using any combination of the heaters listed above.  Each package of cascading T-links includes 2 - 8' cable's as pictured below:

For all recirculation applications the appliance controlled recirculation cannot be activated simultaneously with cascading. If cascading mode is activated and you activate recirculation, the cascading mode will turn off and vice-versa.

Using Bosch Gas Tankless Water Heaters For Breweries & Distilleries

Did you know that it takes many gallons of hot water to make nice cold beer and this is why many breweries around the United States are starting to integrate gas tankless water heaters into their system. The Bosch gas tankless water heater keeps a more stable temperature and delivers endless gallons of hot water.

There are many different Bosch Gas tankless water heaters to choose from but the largest is the Bosch Therm C1210ESC commercial unit and comes in either Natural Gas (NG) or Liquid Propane Gas (LP).  The Bosch C1210ESC has a max temperature of 180 degrees and is great for brewing or cleaning the storage tanks.  The Bosch Greentherm C1050ES is also another great unit for a Brewery. The Bosch Greentherm C1050ES can reach temperatures up to 140 degrees F but after adding the high temperature kit the unit can also go up to 180 degrees F.  Depending on the size of the Brewery and the amount of hot water needed at one given time the Bosch gas tankless water heaters can be cascaded together to deliver more gallons per minute (gpm).  The Bosch Greentherm C1050ES can be cascaded with up to 24 units and deliver up to 290 GPM of hot water.

Bosch Greenstar Intelligent Cascade Module (ICM) #7719003528

Bosch is always working on new ways to improve their products and has recently came out with an Intelligent Cascading Module (ICM) part #7719003528 for the Bosch Greenstar gas-fired wall-hung boilers.  The ICM modules are designed to control cascade systems.  A cascade system is a heating system where several smaller boilers are connected in parallel to achieve higher output.  The Bosch ICM modules are only suitable for controlling Bosch Greenstar boilers with BUS-enabled Heatronic 3 systems.

One Bosch ICM module can control up to 4 Greenstar boilers.  By conecting up to 4 ICM modules, up to 16 boilers can be linked to form a single cascade.  Depending on the heating system controls used, a cascade system with up to 4 or up to 16 boilers can be created.  The maximum number of boilers that can be connected and the number of ICM modules required for the different systems are shown in the table below.

Bosch Therm Intelligent Cascading Kit

The Bosch Therm Intelligent Cascading Kit part number 7709003962 connects the Bosch Therm tankless water heaters together in an intelligent cascading setup.  Up to 24 Bosch Therm tankless water heaters can be connected together in intelligent cascading to deliver more GPM for each heater cascaded.

The Bosch Therm Intelligent Cascading Kit is designed to work with the following Bosch tankless water heaters:  C1210ESC, C1210ES, C1050ES, C950ES, 940ES, 940ESO, 830ES.

New Greentherm PP Concentric up and out vent kit

New for the Bosch Greentherm C 950 ES & C 1050 ES is the polypropylene concentric up-and-out venting kit consisting of the appliance adapter, a 90° elbow, and a termination. This is the simplest and quickest venting option possible for a condensing tankless unit. The outer metal pipe and the inner polypropylene pipe make it both lightweight and rigid. The termination is telescopic to allow for varying wall thicknesses.

This new PP concentric up and out vent kit is approved for the New Green Therm C950ES & C1050ES tankless water heaters.  The PP concentric up and out vent kit is also approved for the Bosch Therm C950ES & C1050ES.  

Before attaching the appliance adapter to the top of the heater, a second metal plate comes with the kit and would cover the other intake air hole.  Then you would want to remove the exhaust collar from the top middle of the heater and then attach the appliance adapter as this will enable the heater to exhaust to the outside and also take its combustion air down the outer side of the same hole.

The Greentherm models C 950 ES & C1050ES are also approved for PP twin-pipe venting systems. Availability of generic PP vent pipe has increased and systems are becoming more popular due to ease of installation.  The twin pipe installation would be used if the customer needed to go out a different area out the sidewall or through the roof and would need to take the combustion air from the outside also.
