New Bosch Greenstar Combi 131 Gas Fired Wall Hung Boiler

Bosch has just introduced a new Greenstar Combi 131 Gas-Fired Wall-Hung Condensing Boiler for space heating and DHW.  "Combi" (combination) unit with space heating and integrated water heating in one highly efficient, compact unit. With special insulation to ensure ultra quiet operation and the exclusive keypad safety lock feature to prevent unwanted tampering with heating controls, this unit is the ideal "green" upgrade for detached & terraced houses and is also suitable for apartments.

The Greenstar Combi 131 is simple to operate and some of the specifications include:

These Greenstar Combi 131 condensing space heating boiler can be used for either Natural Gas or Liquid Propane installations.   The Greenstar units come preset for Natural Gas (NG), but can be converted to Liquid Propane (LP).  A gas conversion kit is included.

The Greenstar Combi units come with a temperature control FW 200 that can either be mounted to the heater or mounted to the wall beside the heater.  This module allows the heater to be set for different temperatures, zones and the time of day the heater comes on and goes off.  The FW 200 control also comes with a temperature probe that goes to the outside and detects and monitors the outside temperature and then allows the heater to remember the coldest and warmest times of the day and year.

All Greenstar Combi boilers are equipped with a high-strength stainless steel secondary exchanger and burner with double passage - ensuring consistent temperature output based on demand. The DHW hot water temperature control limit of 140°F helps prevent scale build-up within the heat exchanger.

Bosch Integra 500 Tankless Water Heater

The Bosch Integra 500 Condensing tankless water heater is a top performance, fully condensing gas tankless water heater from Bosch. This 199,000 BTU heater is designed for residential applications and can deliver hot water up to 140 degrees F with a 10.5 GPM flow rate.  Not approved for space heating applications.

This Energy Star approved tankless water heater can produce enough hot water for 2-3 major applications in most homes.

Unlike traditional non-condensing models, condensing technology captures heat from the exhaust gas and uses it to preheat the incoming cold water. This increases efficiency and reduces emissions -- well ahead of the 2012 Low NOX emissions standards set by SCAQMD (California -- South Coast Air Quality Management District).

The Bosch Integra 500 features an electronic ignition system and can vent through either 3 inch or 4 inch diameter PVC vent pipe either through the side wall or up through the roof. A concentric venting option is available.

The Bosch Integra 500 comes with built-in Freeze Protection and is the same as the Bosch Therm C 1050 ES tankless water heater except that it also comes with a 3/4" PRV and an External Water Filter. The Integra 500 has a white cover and the Bosch C 1050ES has a silver cover.  Both heaters are 199,000 BTUs and have the same temperture rise. 

The Bosch C800ES is the same as the Bosch Integra 500 and the Bosch Therm C 1050 ES tankless water heater except that it comes with a 3/4" PRV and it does not come with built-in freeze protection.  The External Water Filter is optional, but recommended.  The freeze prevention kit is designed to provide protection for the water heater down to approximately 5°F for short term conditions only. It will not protect the appliance in areas where the temperature is routinely expected to be below freezing.  The freeze prevention kit will not protect plumbing outside the appliance from freezing.

The Bosch Integra 500 comes with a limited 15 year warranty on the heat exchanger and 5 years on all other parts.  Service and labor costs are not covered.

Bosch Therm Condensing Tankless Water Heaters

The top-of-the-line Bosch Therm Tankless Water Heaters feature a secondary condensing heat exchanger. This condensing heat exchanger is able to take the heat and energy that would be otherwise going up and out the exhaust pipe and channel that heat back into the water.

There are two main effects from this process. First, this process of reclaiming the heat before it goes out the exhaust boosts the thermal efficiency up by 10 percentage points from 82% to 92%. This means that you are paying less day after day to heat your home's hot water. Second, the heat taken out of the exhaust gases reduces the heat of the exhaust and thus allows the Bosch Therm condensing tankless water heaters to vent through PVC rather than through stainless steel. Of course, PVC is less expensive, so again the home owner saves money.

For example, the Bosch Therm C 1050ES condensing tankless water heater is a 199,000 BTU/hr maximum input unit with a 92% thermal efficiency. Not only can this heater vent out through PVC, but there is an optional concentric vent kit that can be used in either vertical or horizontal exhaust systems. In comparison, the Bosch Therm 940ES is also a 199,000 BTU/hr maximum input tankless water heater. But, as this heater does not have the secondary condensing heat exchanger it must vent through stainless steel vent pipe.

As expected, the Bosch C 1050ES costs more up front than the Bosch 940ES does. It is expected that after a few years of use the higher efficiency Bosch Therm C 1050ES will allow the home owner to recoup the higher up front capital cost.

The Bosch Therm condensing tankless water heaters all start with a "C" to indicate "Condensing." They are:

• Bosch Therm C 1210ESC (Commercial) 225,000 BTU
• Bosch Therm C 1210ES (Residential) 225,000 BTU
• Bosch Therm C 1050ES (Commercial or Residential) 199,000 BTU

Of these, the only heater that is Energy Star rated is the Bosch Therm C1050ES tankless water heater as it is below the 200,000 BTU level.

All of the Bosch Therm Condensing tankless water heaters come with a 15 year warranty on the heat exchanger and a 5 year warranty on all other parts. These heaters can only be sold to licensed installers and cannot be sold directly to home owners. They all feature an electronic ignition system and offer an optional remote control thermostat.

All three models are available in both natural gas and liquid propane and come with Bosch's patented burner design. And, they can be used in solar thermal, recirculation and space heating applications.
